Grammarly is a great tool to eliminate all your grammar mistakes on the computer! It is free, and it can be incorporated in your email or on your desktop. For the web, all you have to do is download an extension for your web browser (available on Chrome, Safari and Firefox) and then it will automatically detect all your mistakes and provide suggestions on how you can fix it. This is crucial especially when you are writing important emails to external parties or even your boss! You definitely do not want to be seen as someone who is very careless and makes many mistakes. I also use it every day for writing my emails and blog entries. Sign up for free here.
A few months ago, I was recommended by a mentor to read a book called On Writing Well: The Classic Guide to Writing Nonfiction. As a blogger, I need to write concise and authentic content for my readers. This book is an excellent guide for writing non-fiction. The author starts off with explaining the general problems with how people write. He then shows how many of these words are unnecessarily and can easily be eliminated since they do not provide any significance and do not make the content better. I found the structure and flow to be an easy read which is why I enjoyed reading it. If you enjoy writing non-fiction, I recommend you reading this book.
Starting a Blog
Blogging is a great way to share your writing with people about your experiences and a great portfolio piece on your CV to demonstrate what you can do! Blogging is more than just writing – it can also be a business, and you can make an income from it. From managing social media to content creation, it is a lot of work, but ultimately, it is a great way how you can practice your writing while giving back to the community (via travel tips or whatever your niche may be).
Self-hosting allows great flexibility such as designing the web page exactly how you want it to be. It also allows ads that can generate income. I use Siteground because of their exceptional 24/7 customer service! Anytime I’m stuck, I can find someone on live chat within minutes and that is why they are a service I would no doubt use again! It costs as little as $3.95 per month.
