How to Find a Work Exchange for Free Food and Accommodation! Websites that can help you find a volunteer position to do for free. Live Abroad | Work Abroad | Travel | Free Accommodation | Teaching | Hostels | Hotels | Volunteer Abroad

If you are looking for a way to travel without spending a lot of money, then you should consider doing a work exchange for saving money on accommodation and food. It has been proven that slow traveling is the cheapest option as it allows you to absorb the culture, meet local people and understand their way of life. You won’t need to be racing through a bunch of attractions over a short period, and spend a fortune on living luxuriously. Work exchanges are a good option because it allows you to cut the costs of living and trade it with your skills and time. More importantly, since you are volunteering, you would not require a work visa to stay, making your travel more flexible and easy!

Below are some websites I have found that promotes work exchanges. They collaborate with different organizations who wants help and can accommodate a trade-off for you with free living and food.

Workaway

Workaway is a website that gives you plenty of options of things you can do – both volunteering and work opportunities – around the globe. Whether it is painting or renovating a house or teaching at a hostel or a school, the website works with organizations that can provide you free accommodation and food for a few hours of help per day. The whole idea is that it is a shared experience – you are giving back to the community while they are also providing you the resource to slowly pace yourself in a city to explore. All you have to do is choose a country and activity to get started!

Volunteering with Children

HelpStay

HelpStay is a site that has so many options for all types of people! From house building to taking care of animals, they have it all! On the website, they are also very upfront with what they expect from you. Things like how many days do you work, how many hours per week, and what exactly is required during your stay, and in return, what they can give back. Many of these offer accommodation and food. The best part, they are growing fast and already in over 60 countries, and over 160 projects available.

Farm Horses

HelpX

HelpX is a popular choice for those who love the outdoors and using their hands. Their online listing features several organic and non-organic farms, ranches, and lodges who want additional help over the year or for seasonal work. I have friends who recommended me this site after using it. They give volunteers food and accommodation in exchange for their help which means it saves you the two most expensive things while traveling. If you like using your hands for construction/ building something, I find HelpX to be perfect. Depending on location, and what’s popular in the region, you may also find some hostel work to help out at, which is another great way to meet people from all over the world.

House Building

I’d love to hear your feedback if you have used these services before. Which website is the most user-friendly? Where did you go and what did you do? Leave a message below!
