It’s been two weeks since I’ve moved in and it never felt more right. I finally feel I’ve found my home, settled and able to enjoy all the things Paris offer. It feels nice to have a lack of responsibilities, no more kiddies to drive or to babysit, and just take care of myself. That is exactly what I needed after a month of many misfortune mishaps, endless stress and a body breakdown. And lucky for me, I just had my first two weeks holidays of the school year. Timing could have not been more perfect!
During these two weeks, I’ve been very productive in going out and exploring the city. I had friends visit and stayed with me, and I finally got to play tourists. It was the perfect opportunity to do all the things that I’ve been meaning to since I’ve arrived. I went to see the Eiffel Tower (still need another chance to go up though), Chateau de Versailles, Arc de Triomphe, Notre Dame, the Louvre and more museums! Indeed, it is a beautiful city and the streets and everywhere around is a piece of art itself. You can see so much without spending a single penny, especially when you are under 25 years old and have a temporary EU citizenship. Currently, I can get in free to all the national museums and attractions which has definitely helped me save money. It’s quite a privilege and I would be taking advantage. If you’re over 25 years old, you can also get free to most museums on the first Sunday of every month. It’s free for everyone!
I’ve also had a chance to meet locals and experience the city in a different way. The one thing I notice about French people is that they love walking on their feet and showing you their city that involves all things outdoor. They are prideful of how many beautiful monuments and sculptures are filled around the city and just want to show it off to you, especially because many of them are all centered together. I’ve been walking for hours and am completely exhausted and sore!
When living in a foreign city or country, what makes a real authentic experience is spending time with the local people from here. They would know the best places to go, hidden views of the city, where to get delicious food and practice the language with you! I’ve had people to practice my French with, learn about French culture, discuss culture shock and differences and have some amazing conversations with travelers around the world. It’s exactly what I needed and am looking forward in continuing to learn about France this upcoming year.
These two weeks have been absolutely a perfect vacation. From reconnecting old friends to meeting new people and seeing the city, I’m finally excited to start my wonderful year in France.
Everyone has a story.
This is mine.
