Giovanni is a travel deal hunter from Italy. He spends his time online looking for the best travel deals and gets to work anywhere in the world!

What is your name and where are you originally from?

I’m Giovanni and I am from Italy

Where do you currently live?

Hard to answer. Right now I am in my hometown to spend some time with friends and family and enjoy the summertime. In the last 7 months, since I started this new lifestyle, I have “lived” in Chiang Mai, Bangkok, Thai islands, Singapore, Bali, Lombok, Gili islands, Germany, Netherlands, Romania and Ukraine.

What is your current / past jobs that you have done that allowed you to travel? Where are these located?

Currently I work as an editor for a travel website. I specialise in finding travel deals and work remotely.

Why did you choose these locations? Did you need a visa to stay?

First of all I chose Chiang Mai because of its fame for being a digital nomad space and I wanted to get in touch with other remote workers and learn more about them, their professions and this lifestyle. After Chiang Mai, I just followed my desires and booked ticket after ticket. It was amazing! The only visa I used was the Thai one because I was I wanted to stay 2 months and not only one.

Why did you choose this career / nomad lifestyle? Was there a turning point that led to the decision?

I didn’t choose this career at all. Everything was casual and I didn’t even know much about remote jobs in the beginning. Last summer, I completed my master’s and until November I still haven’t found a job. So I tried proposing to travel blogs as a travel deals hunter without any expectation and… here we are today. I also took a one-way flight to Chiang Mai and met other remote workers, got inspired by their lifestyle and then decided it was for me! It all happened really quickly.

What experience do you need to do your job? How did you get started?

The only experience I had was the strong ability and passion to organise my trips and find cheap fares, even when I could not travel. Since I started traveling in 2010, I was very curious to understand the evolution of flight fares as a hobby. Now it’s my job and I am very grateful for it because it introduced me to this “digital word” and opened new doors, new connections, and new possibilities.

What is your favourite thing about the job?

My favourite thing is that I literally never work because I’m just spending time doing one of my hobbies.

What is the least favourable thing about the job?

The least favourable thing is that I spend many hours in front of my laptop screen. It can be annoying sometimes but I don’t complain as I was used to spend my whole day doing stuff on the Internet.

What does a typical day in your job looks like? A sample schedule?

In Europe, I am free during the morning, which I use to do some sport or study languages and learning more about remote jobs. Then I work from 3-4 pm until 10pm. During the night I am free to meet people or keep studying.

Right now I am in Canada and I am taking advantage of this time difference, working during the mornings and studying in the afternoon. I’m currently debating if I should create a blog about my adventures. During the night I love to go out, meet locals and enjoy food! I’m quite a foodie person 🙂

What is your advice for someone who wants to do something similar?

I suggest everybody who feels trapped in the office, or admire other people’s adventures and dreams should try to change their lifestyle. I’m not saying it would be easy, but if you really want to do it, you can find a way.
